In alignment with the Foundation’s mission to empower women, children, and youth in grassroots communities, Glory Ifezue Foundation recognizes the need to celebrate the often-unseen efforts of teachers. These educators tirelessly dedicate themselves to empowering children in various grassroots communities, playing a pivotal role in shaping the future.
This International Teachers Day, we chose to celebrate those teachers who go above and beyond in their profession, reminding them of the value they bring not only to their students but to society as a whole.
As part of our celebration, Glory Ifezue Foundation visited five community schools in Enugu State: St. Joseph Secondary School, Emene; Community High Secondary School, Emene; Community Secondary School, Ibagwa; Community Secondary School, Umuchigbo; and Trans Ekulu Secondary School. We wanted this recognition to come from the students themselves – after all, they are the ones who experience firsthand the dedication of their teachers.
We asked the students to nominate two teachers from their school who had made the greatest impact on their lives. Each student was asked to write down the names of the teachers who had positively influenced them and provided a reason for their choice. The teachers with the highest votes were selected for recognition by the Foundation.
It was truly heartwarming to witness the joy and excitement from both students and teachers as the selected educators were honored. These ten teachers were rewarded with gifts as a token of appreciation for their tireless work and commitment to education in grassroots communities.
One of the key goals of the Glory Ifezue Foundation’s Teacher’s Day celebration is to create greater awareness around the need to appreciate teachers among all stakeholders in Nigeria—officials, parents, students, and other formal organizations. By recognizing and celebrating teachers, we hope to inspire others to value their contributions to society.
When teachers are appreciated and supported, it fuels their passion and strengthens their commitment to their profession. This sense of value not only improves teacher morale but also enhances the quality of education students receive. In the long run, acknowledging the pivotal role of teachers can lead to a more vibrant and successful educational system across the country, benefiting future generations.
